India struck gold in the shooting range at Aichi-Nagoya, with Kamaljeet and Suruchi Singh winning the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event — India’s second gold medal of these Games, and one with a distinctly Haryana signature, as both shooters hail from the state.

The result: Kamaljeet, Suruchi Singh Win Gold

The pair topped the podium in the mixed team event, adding to India’s growing medal count from the shooting range, which has already been the country’s most productive discipline at these Games. Their gold follows a string of shooting medals through the opening week, cementing the sport’s status as India’s most reliable source of podium finishes at Aichi-Nagoya.

Kamaljeet: from athletics injury to international gold

Kamaljeet, Suruchi Singh Win Gold: Kamaljeet, born August 22, 2003, hails from Sulkha in Rewari, Haryana, and trains at the 10x Shooting Academy in Sulkha. He specialises in 10m Air Pistol and 50m Pistol — but shooting wasn’t his first sporting pursuit. He took up the sport only in 2019, after an injury forced him to abandon a career in track-and-field athletics.

His path to the top wasn’t smooth. Coming from a middle-class family, Kamaljeet had to fund his own coaching, course fees and competitions in the early years, and there were times he considered giving up the sport altogether. His parents’ consistent support kept him going, and over two to three years of persistence, he established himself as a competitive shooter.

The breakthrough came on the junior international circuit: gold in the 50m Pistol Junior Men event at the 2023 ISSF Junior World Championships in Changwon, South Korea, where he also won team gold alongside Ankait Tomar and Sandeep Bishnoi. He has since built a strong senior record, including a bronze in the 50m Pistol Men’s Team event at the 2023 ISSF World Championship in Baku, a silver in the same team event at the 2025 World Championship in Cairo, and an individual silver at the 2026 Asian Championships in New Delhi.

Suruchi: a wrestling family’s daughter turns to shooting — and rewrites junior records

Kamaljeet, Suruchi Singh Win Gold: Suruchi Inder Singh, born April 28, 2006, is from Jhajjar, Haryana. She comes from a family with a strong wrestling background, and was initially encouraged toward that sport before taking up shooting at age 13 instead, training under coach Suresh Singh at the Guru Dronacharya Shooting Academy in Bhiwani.

Her rise on the senior international stage has been rapid. In 2025 alone, she won three consecutive individual ISSF World Cup golds — in Buenos Aires, Lima and Munich — plus a mixed team gold in Lima alongside Saurabh Chaudhary. Her season peaked at the ISSF World Cup Final in Doha, where she won gold and set a Junior World Record of 245.1 in the 10m Air Pistol final. She carried that form into 2026, winning gold at the ISSF World Cup in Munich and a silver in the mixed team event at the 2026 Asian Championships in New Delhi — the same event, and same silver finish, that she has now converted into Asian Games gold alongside Kamaljeet.

The government support behind the medal

Kamaljeet has received ₹7,53,946 under the Annual Calendar for Training and Competition (ACTC) scheme, though he has not been supported under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS). Suruchi has received ₹2,00,000 under TOPS and ₹27,56,675 under ACTC, along with ammunition support under the SAI Ammunition Circular and an Out-of-Pocket Allowance.

The bigger picture

Kamaljeet, Suruchi Singh Win Gold: With this gold, both Kamaljeet and Suruchi add their names to a growing list of Haryana shooters delivering for India on the biggest stages — a reminder of how deep the state’s talent pool in the discipline runs, from small towns like Sulkha and Jhajjar all the way to the Asian Games podium.
