ED Raids Punjab Industries Minister Sanjeev Arora; Sabh Fade Jaange, Says Union Minister Bittu

Chandigarh, April 17

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has carried out raids at multiple locations linked to Punjab Industries Minister Sanjeev Arora. The raids are being carried across 13 locations in Gurugram, Chandigarh, Ludhiana and Jalandhar on April 17 in an alleged FEMA case involving alleged hawala and illegal betting money.

The ED conducted searches starting early Friday across 13 premises spanning Haryana’s Gurugram, Chandigarh, and Punjab’s Ludhiana and Jalandhar. The raids began around 6:30 am with central armed forces deployed — Punjab Police was kept out of the operation.

The searches are alleged to be part of an ongoing investigation under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). Arora is also the promoter of a firm engaged in large-scale real estate and infrastructure projects in Punjab.

Investigators are examining allegations of illegal land-use changes, inflated and fraudulent sales bookings to manipulate share prices, insider trading, and alleged round-tripping of funds from the UAE.

At the time of the raids, Arora was travelling to Europe as part of the Punjab government’s Invest Punjab initiative to attract foreign investment — making the timing particularly dramatic. He posted on X: “Good Morning! An action by the Enforcement Directorate took place at my premises. As a responsible citizen, I will fully cooperate with the agencies and I am confident that the truth will prevail.”

This followed earlier ED searches on AAP Rajya Sabha MP and Deputy Leader of the Upper House Ashok Kumar Mittal on Wednesday. AAP has framed it as a coordinated BJP offensive ahead of the 2027 Punjab assembly elections.

Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu posted on X — “Sabh fade jaange” (everyone will be caught) — a phrase that doubles as the title of a popular Parmish Verma song, giving his political jab an unmistakable Punjab cultural edge. Bittu further alleged that Arora frequently travelled to Dubai to manage financial dealings, hinting at possible overseas links.

Arvind Kejriwal posted on X: “This is the second ED raid at the residence of an AAP leader within three days. Will the Prime Minister tell us how much black money has been recovered from the countless raids conducted so far? Not even a single rupee?” CM Bhagwant Mann called the raids a BJP rehearsal for the 2027 Punjab assembly elections. AAP Delhi President Saurabh Bhardwaj said: “This is a clear pattern. This is how the BJP starts its preparation for a state election.”

Arora — an industrialist who became AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP in March 2022 before being inducted into the Punjab cabinet — was previously raided by the ED in October 2024, at the time in connection with alleged illegal transfer of government-allotted land used for a residential rather than industrial project. The FEMA probe now takes the scrutiny significantly deeper.
