RCB vs GT Qualifier 1 IPL 2026: From Patidar’s 93 off 33 to Sai Sudharsan’s bizarre hit wicket — five moments that defined RCB’s 92-run demolition of GT in IPL 2026 Qualifier 1 at Dharamsala.

RCB 254 for 5. GT 162 all out. Margin: 92 runs.

On paper, the RCB vs GT Qualifier 1 IPL 2026 in Dharamsala looks one-sided. And it was — eventually. But the match had moments of high drama, individual brilliance and sheer bad luck before RCB pulled away to book their place in a second consecutive final. Here are the five moments that told the story of the night.

Chasing 255, GT needed their best start. They got a decent one — 11 runs off the first over, openers looking fluent. Then, in the third over, came the moment that swung the mood of the entire chase.

Sai Sudharsan, on 14 off 9 balls and looking dangerous, played a well-timed cut shot off Jacob Duffy. As he began to move for a run, his bat slipped from his grip — and struck the stumps. Hit wicket. Out. The left-hander hadn’t even looked back by the time the bails were off.

It was the kind of dismissal that happens maybe once in a season, if that. On any other night it might have been a footnote. On this night, with 255 on the board, it was the moment GT’s chase effectively died.

At the end of the 14th over in RCB vs GT Qualifier 1 IPL 2026, RCB were 140 for 3. A good total was on. A historic one was not yet in anyone’s thinking.

Then Rajat Patidar happened.

What the RCB captain produced across the next 33 balls was the fastest innings of 90-plus runs in IPL history — a strike rate of 281.81, going past even Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s celebrated 103 off 37 from earlier this season. Nine sixes. Six fours. An unbeaten 93 that left commentators, fielders and his own batting partners struggling to find words.

The last six overs of RCB’s innings produced 114 runs — an avalanche that overwhelmed the tournament’s best bowling attack. Kagiso Rabada, Jason Holder, Rashid Khan — all were taken apart. Patidar finished unbeaten because he simply ran out of overs, not because anyone got him out.

Within that Patidar knock, one shot stood apart in RCB vs GT Qualifier 1 IPL 2026

Rabada had come into this match wearing the Purple Cap — the tournament’s leading wicket-taker. He is one of the most dangerous death bowlers in world cricket. Patidar greeted him with a back-foot drive over cover that was not merely a six — it was a statement. The ball disappeared over the ropes. Virat Kohli, standing at the non-striker’s end, stopped mid-stride and stared. Kohli, who has faced the world’s best for two decades, was visibly stunned.

Moments like this are why playoffs in Dharamsala, with the mountains in the background, feel different from every other venue.

Patidar’s fireworks tend to obscure what made them possible. When he arrived at the crease in RCB vs GT Qualifier 1 IPL 2026 , RCB still needed someone at the other end to absorb pressure and rotate strike intelligently. Krunal Pandya did exactly that, scoring 43 off 28 balls in the middle overs — a knock that kept the scoreboard moving and gave Patidar the freedom to attack.

In the time Patidar scored his 93 off 33 deliveries, the other end combined for 68 off 37 legal deliveries. It was not a supporting role — it was a vital one. Without Krunal’s steadying influence through overs 10 to 16, the platform for RCB’s final assault does not exist.

Once Sudharsan’s bat betrayed him in the third over, Jacob Duffy and Bhuvneshwar Kumar made sure there was no recovery.

Bhuvneshwar removed Shubman Gill — GT’s captain and most dangerous batter — for just 2 runs. GT, who had begun their chase at 11 off the first over and briefly looked threatening, were suddenly 13 for 2 inside three overs. By the end of the powerplay, they were 56 for 5. Five wickets in the first six overs chasing 255. From that position, no team in T20 history could have recovered.

Duffy finished with 3 for 39 across his spell — the hit wicket his first, a dismantling of the lower order his second act. For a bowler who came in as an impact sub for Jacob Duffy, it was a match-defining performance.

RCB, put in to bat at Dharamsala’s HPCA Stadium, posted 254 for 5 — the highest total in IPL playoff history. Rajat Patidar’s unbeaten 93 off 33 (the fastest 90-plus innings in IPL history) powered the final push, after Krunal Pandya’s 43 off 28 set the platform in the middle overs. Kagiso Rabada took 2 for 54. Chasing 255, GT never found their footing.

Sai Sudharsan’s bizarre hit wicket in the third over and the early dismissal of Shubman Gill (2) left the chase at 56 for 5 after the powerplay. GT were eventually bowled out for 162 in 19.1 overs — 92 runs short of the target. RCB are through to the IPL 2026 final in Ahmedabad on May 31, defending their title. GT remain alive and will face the winner of today’s Eliminator between SRH and RR in Qualifier 2 on May 29.

Result: RCB beat GT by 92 runs

Player of the Match: Rajat Patidar (93* off 33)
