Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the IPL 2026 trophy and the Rs 20-crore winners prize. But when the individual awards were handed out at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday night, one name dominated the ceremony: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. He won a Tata Sierra and Rs 55 lakh. And he was bought at Rs 1.10 crore at the auctions by the Rajasthan Royals, thus he won half of that in prize money alone!

The Rajasthan Royals opener swept the batting honours in a manner the IPL has never seen before — becoming the first player in the tournament’s history to win both the MVP and Emerging Player awards in the same season. His team did not win the trophy. His individual season may never be bettered.

ORANGE CAP — Most Runs

Winner: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (Rajasthan Royals)

776 runs | 16 matches | Strike rate: 237.30

At 15 years and 65 days, Sooryavanshi became the youngest player in IPL history to win the Orange Cap (Rs 10 lakh) — overtaking Sai Sudharsan, who had won it last season at 23 years and 237 days. He finished ahead of Shubman Gill and Sudharsan in the run-scoring charts.

The records he broke along the way: the fastest batter to reach 1,000 IPL runs in terms of balls faced (440 deliveries, surpassing Andre Russell); the first player to score 500 powerplay runs in a single IPL season; and 72 sixes — the most in a single IPL season, breaking Chris Gayle’s record of 59 set in 2011.

He was also the first player since Gayle in 2011 to top both the runs and strike rate charts (minimum 20 balls faced) in the same season. Sachin Tendulkar, speaking at the Cricinfo Honours on the eve of the final, called him “truly special” — noting specifically his wrist work and his ability to pick line and length earlier than other batters.

PURPLE CAP — Most Wickets

Winner: Kagiso Rabada (Gujarat Titans)

29 wickets | 17 matches | Economy: 9.68

Rabada claimed the Purple Cap for the second time in his IPL career, having previously won it in 2020 for Delhi Capitals with 30 wickets. He finished one ahead of RCB’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who ended the season with 28 wickets — an extraordinary return for a 38-year-old in what has been widely reported as his final IPL season.

Rabada’s wickets came at the highest level of T20 cricket — against the best batting lineups in the world, across 17 matches including the final. His Purple Cap is the individual bowling honour of the tournament.

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER (MVP)

Winner: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (Rajasthan Royals)

The MVP award factors in batting, bowling and fielding contributions across the season. Sooryavanshi won it (Rs 15 lakh) on the strength of 776 runs alone — making him the first player in IPL history to win both MVP and Emerging Player in the same season.

EMERGING PLAYER OF THE SEASON

Winner: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (Rajasthan Royals)

The youngest Orange Cap winner is also the Emerging Player of the Season (Rs 10 lakh) — the double that had never been achieved before. Sooryavanshi won this same award last season for his strike rate of 206.55. This time he surpassed even that.

ELECTRIC SUPER STRIKER OF THE SEASON

Winner: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (Rajasthan Royals)

Strike rate: 237.30

The award for the highest strike rate in the tournament (minimum runs qualification). Sooryavanshi’s 237.30 — built across 16 matches and 776 runs, not just a cameo or two — is one of the most remarkable sustained strike rates in T20 history at any level. Won Rs 10 lakh for that.

SUPER SIXES — Most Sixes

Winner: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (Rajasthan Royals)

72 sixes

Sooryavanshi’s 72 sixes (won Rs 10 lakh) broke Chris Gayle’s IPL record of 59 sixes in a single season, set in 2011. In the process he became the most prolific six-hitter in a single IPL season — at 15 years old.

MOST FOURS OF THE SEASON

Winner: Sai Sudharsan (Gujarat Titans)

75 fours

While Sooryavanshi dominated the sixes chart, GT’s Sai Sudharsan — the Orange Cap holder last season — claimed the boundaries award with 75 fours across the tournament. A reminder, amid all the Sooryavanshi brilliance, that Sudharsan’s 2026 season was quietly excellent in its own right.

CATCH OF THE SEASON

Winner: Manish Pandey

Manish Pandey’s stunning catch to dismiss Tim David during RCB’s league-stage clash against Kolkata Knight Riders was voted the Catch of the Season. A diving, one-handed take that drew immediate replays across broadcast networks.

GREEN DOT BALL AWARD

Winner: Mohammed Siraj

172 dot balls

The Green Dot Ball award — tied to an environmental initiative that plants trees for every dot ball bowled — went to Mohammed Siraj, who bowled 172 dot balls across the season, contributing to the planting of 3,268 trees through the programme.

PITCH AND GROUND AWARD

Venues hosting 5+ matches: Cricket Association of Bengal

Venues hosting fewer than 5 matches: Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA)

A notable result for North Desk readers: the HPCA — which runs the Dharamsala ground where RCB demolished GT in Qualifier 1 — won the Pitch and Ground Award in its category. The Dharamsala ground, where Patidar’s 93 off 33 was played out, has been one of IPL 2026’s finest venues.
