Farmer Protest Modi Jalandhar: Kisan Mazdoor Morcha to burn effigies across Punjab as PM Modi visits Jalandhar July 17, demanding MSP guarantee and withdrawal from free trade pacts. Delhi mahapanchayat planned for July 21.

Kisan Mazdoor Morcha says it will burn effigies of the central government across Punjab districts when PM Modi arrives in Jalandhar on Friday, as part of a wider protest against free trade agreements; the farmers have planned a bigger mobilisation at Delhi’s Kisan Ghat on July 21.
The Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) held a leadership meeting in Ludhiana on Thursday, chaired by Amarjit Singh Mohri, where it finalised plans to burn effigies of the central government at the district level across Punjab on July 17 — timed to coincide with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s arrival in Jalandhar that day.

Farmer Protest Modi Jalandhar: The protest is part of KMM’s broader campaign against free trade agreements (FTAs) being negotiated by the central government, which the union says threaten the interests of farmers, laborers, the dairy sector, small traders and the general public. The Ludhiana meeting also reviewed preparations for a larger mahapanchayat at Delhi’s Kisan Ghat on July 21, called specifically to oppose the FTAs.
Leaders reiterated the union’s core demands: a legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all crops, crop pricing under the Swaminathan Commission’s C2+50% formula, complete loan waivers for farmers and laborers, and withdrawal of police and railway cases filed against farmers during past agitations.
They accused the central government of weakening agriculture and the rural economy through what they called corporate-friendly policies, and warned of intensified protests if their demands continue to be ignored.
KMM leaders pointed to a motorcycle march held a day earlier, which they said drew a large turnout, as a sign of continuing momentum, and appealed to farmers, labourers and the public across Punjab to join district-level protests in large numbers on July 17. Among those present at the Ludhiana meeting were Sarwan Singh Pandher, Dilbagh Singh Gill, Malkit Singh Gulamiwala, Jaswinder Singh Longowal and other KMM office-bearers.
