Glasgow gave India its best single day of these Games — two gold medals, a silver from its biggest track and field star, and two milestone firsts. Leading it all was Haryana’s own Neeraj Chopra.
Neeraj Chopra: Silver, and a Historic Podium Double
Neeraj Chopra Silver : Neeraj Chopra, the Panipat-born javelin thrower and reigning Olympic and World champion, added a Commonwealth Games silver to his collection with a best throw of 85.83m. But the bigger story was what happened alongside him: Yash Vir Singh took bronze with 85.41m, marking the first time two Indians have stood on the javelin podium together at a Commonwealth Games. Rohit Yadav finished 7th at 81.56m, giving India three throwers in the top eight.
For Neeraj — who trains at SAI’s NCOE Patiala and comes from a modest farming family in Khandra village, Panipat — this is another chapter in a career that already includes Olympic gold (2020) and silver (2024), a World Championship gold (2023), and the 2018 Commonwealth Games title. This time, he shares the moment with a compatriot on the same podium, a first for Indian javelin.

Two Golds in Judo: Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh
India’s judo contingent delivered the day’s headline results. Asmita Dey, a Khelo India athlete competing in the Women’s 48kg category, won gold with a dramatic golden-score victory over Canada’s Heidi Quach.
Dey’s path to this moment started far from a judo mat — she’s the daughter of a bicycle mechanic from Belonia in South Tripura, who first competed in the 800m before switching to judo and rising through the Tripura Sports School and SAI’s NCOE Bhopal.
Moments later, Harsh Singh made it back-to-back gold for India, defeating Australia’s Joshua Katz in the Men’s 60kg final. The Delhi-based judoka, who trains at IIS Bellary, had built toward this through a steady rise on the international IJF circuit over the past two seasons.
Yamini Mourya added a silver in the Women’s -57kg category, falling to England’s Acelya Toprak in the final. The Sagar, Madhya Pradesh judoka trains at the Inspire Institute of Sport in Karnataka and has been a fixture on India’s senior circuit since 2022.
Tejaswin Shankar: A First-Ever Decathlon Medal
In athletics, Tejaswin Shankar closed out the Men’s Decathlon with a 1500m clock of 4:36.19, taking his total to 7976 points and India’s first-ever Commonwealth Games medal in the event — bronze. It also makes him the first Indian to medal in two different athletics events across Commonwealth Games history.
Between a historic javelin double, back-to-back judo golds, and a first-of-its-kind decathlon medal, this was the day India’s Glasgow campaign turned into something to remember.
