Fatehgarh Sahib, October 7
What began with a high-profile wedding attended by prominent Aam Aadmi Party leaders has now turned into a police investigation involving allegations of deception, forged documents and missing jewellery and cash.
AAP leader Amarinder Singh Mandofal has approached the police alleging that the woman he married, and members of her family concealed crucial details about her identity and past before the marriage.
The allegations are startling: Mandofal claims that the accused was presented to him as an unmarried Punjab Civil Services (PCS) officer, that her age was allegedly manipulated in official documents, and that her previous marriage and an 18-year-old son were kept hidden from him.
Police have registered a case against six people.
According to police, an FIR was registered at Bhikhiwind police station under Sections 318(4), 336(3), 338, 340(2) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), covering allegations including cheating, forgery, use of forged documents and criminal conspiracy.
Punjab AAP Leader Marriage: A wedding attended by AAP leaders
Punjab AAP Leader Marriage: Mandofal, a resident of Mandofal village in Fatehgarh Sahib, married the woman on February 10, 2026.
The wedding was not a low-key affair. Reports say several senior AAP figures attended the ceremony, including Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan and Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Saundh.
Photographs and videos from the celebrations also surfaced on social media, showing political figures participating in the festivities.
At the time, there appeared to be little indication that the marriage would, months later, become the subject of a criminal case.
The alleged PCS identity
Punjab AAP Leader Marriage: According to Mandofal’s complaint, the accused and her family allegedly told him before the marriage that she was an unmarried PCS officer.
The complaint says the accused allegedly claimed that she was an executive PCS officer posted in Jalandhar and later represented herself as having been given charge as an Additional Deputy Commissioner in Mohali.
Mandofal allegedly received government-looking deployment orders supporting those claims.
The complainant also alleged that the woman maintained an Instagram profile portraying her as a PCS officer.
However, after the marriage, Mandofal reportedly became suspicious when the woman repeatedly left home citing official duties and later allegedly told him that she had been suspended.
When he sought documents relating to the alleged suspension, the situation reportedly took another turn.
According to the complaint, the woman subsequently left the house.
Questions about her age
One of the more unusual allegations in the case concerns the woman’s date of birth.
Mandofal allegedly discovered that documents presented to him did not match records he subsequently obtained.
According to the FIR, her original date of birth was allegedly June 18, 1980, while documents were purportedly altered to show June 18, 1992.
The complaint alleges that documents including her Class 10 certificate, PAN card and other identity records were forged or manipulated to make her appear younger.
The past marriage allegation
The allegations did not stop with the claimed PCS identity or age.
Mandofal told police that he later discovered that the accused had allegedly been married before.
According to the complaint, she had allegedly married another man in 2007, subsequently obtained a divorce settlement, and had an 18-year-old son from that relationship.
Mandofal alleges that neither the previous marriage nor the existence of the son was disclosed to him before the February wedding.
The police case is therefore not simply about whether the accused held the government position she allegedly claimed to hold. Investigators are also looking into whether information about her identity and marital history was deliberately concealed as part of a broader alleged conspiracy.
The jewellery and cash allegation
Then came another twist.
Mandofal has alleged that the accused left the matrimonial home on August 27, carrying 14 tolas of gold jewellery and ₹1 lakh in cash.
The allegation is that she also took other valuables.
Six people named in the FIR
Police have booked six people in connection with the allegations.
They include the woman, her brother, mother, sister-in-law, cousin and former village sarpanch Tarlochan Singh
Reports say the accused are residents of a village under the Bhikhiwind police station area of Tarn Taran district.
