In a match that saw one of the lowest IPL scores, Royal Challengers Bengaluru completed one of the most comprehensive victories in IPL history on Monday, demolishing Delhi Capitals by 9 wickets at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. DC, bowled out for a pitiful 75 in 16.3 overs, were then chased down by RCB in just 6.3 overs — a result so one-sided it barely qualified as a contest.

The match lasted a fraction of its scheduled duration. By the time the second innings ended, 13.3 overs of the chase remained unused. RCB finished at 77 for 1, with Devdutt Padikkal scoring an explosive unbeaten 34 off just 13 balls — with 3 fours and 3 sixes — and Virat Kohli finishing on 23 not out off 15 balls. Jacob Bethell was the only wicket to fall, for 20 off 11 balls.

DC’s Batting: A Complete Capitulation

Delhi Capitals’ first innings was a procession of failure–ending up in the list of lowest IPL scores. They lost wickets from the second ball of the match and never found footing. Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck immediately, removing opener Sahil Parikh for a second-ball duck, and Josh Hazlewood continued the destruction at the other end.

By the end of the third over, DC were 7 for 5. KL Rahul made 1. Sameer Rizvi made 0. Axar Patel made 0. Nitish Rana made 1. The entire recognised top order was obliterated inside three overs.

Abhishek Porel, coming in at No. 7, was DC’s top scorer with 30 runs — a damning commentary on the collapse above him. David Miller (19) and Kyle Jamieson (12) offered some resistance in the middle overs, but the damage was done. DC were all out for 75 in 16.3 overs.

Bowling figures: Hazlewood 4/12 in 3.3 overs, Bhuvneshwar 3/5 in 3 overs, Suyash Sharma 1/7 in 4 overs (including a maiden), Krunal Pandya 1/9 in 2 overs.

This is Delhi’s worst-ever or lowest ever IPL score as Delhi Capitals — the franchise that rebranded from Delhi Daredevils in 2019. Painfully, their two previous entries on this list (66 and 67) were also both from 2017, also at home. Delhi have now recorded three of the twelve lowest scores in IPL history — all at or near their home ground.

The Chase: Over Before It Began

RCB’s pursuit of 76 was almost contemptuous in its ease. Bethell smashed 2 sixes in his 20-run cameo. When he fell in the third over, Devdutt Padikkal walked in and immediately launched into DC’s bowlers. His 34 off 13 balls, at a strike rate of 261, was the innings in miniature — brutal, efficient, and joyful. Kohli, content to rotate strike, finished unbeaten at 23. The target was reached in 6.3 overs, with 9 wickets in hand.

Kyle Jamieson was DC’s most expensive bowler in the chase — 42 runs from 3 overs at an economy of 14 — a number that underlines just how thoroughly RCB dominated every phase of this match.

Result: RCB won by 9 wickets (with 81 balls to spare)
