A UK-based Punjabi man settled in Liverpool has accused two Noida-based individuals of duping him and his associates of nearly ₹1.63 crore in an alleged visa fraud, with police in Punjab registering an FIR against the accused last week.

The complainant, Shaminder Singh is a driver by profession now settled in England. He filed the complaint on behalf of his family — whose roots remain in Kharar, where his father Kuldeep Singh resides. According to the FIR, the case was taken up on the direction of the Director General of Police, NRI Affairs Wing, Punjab, following a written complaint received last week.

UK NRI in visa fraud

UK NRI in Visa Fraud: As per the complainant’s statement recorded in the FIR, his father was contacted in September 2024 through social media by one Chandan Kumar, a resident of Vijay Nagar, Ghaziabad.

The latter, along with a woman identified as Aarti, claimed to run a firm called “Global Work Hub Noida” out of an office on the 10th floor of AIB Tower, Sector 62, Noida. The two allegedly told Kuldeep Singh they could arrange visa processing at low cost.

Trusting the assurance, the family allegedly engaged the accused in February 2025 to process visas for two acquaintances. The complainant alleged that from March–April 2025, his brother and several other associates were also brought in and made to pay for visa processing through the same agents.

The FIR states that the accused demanded ₹1,50,000 per applicant as a processing fee, collected through a combination of bank transfers and cash in India, as well as remittances sent in British pounds from the UK. The document lists a series of individual transactions spanning December 2024 to late 2025, though the cumulative figures recorded in the FIR are not fully consistent with each other. The complainant’s stated total claim — for himself and his associates combined — is £1,50,000, or approximately ₹1.63 crore.

Visa was promised in 15-20 days

According to the complaint, the accused initially promised visas would be issued within 15–20 days, but nothing materialised. When the complainant and his family sought a refund, the accused allegedly kept citing document processing delays before eventually stopping communication altogether.

The complainant further alleged that the accused shifted their office at least twice — first within the same AIB Tower building in May 2025, and again in October 2025 — while continuing to evade the family without returning any money or issuing any visa.

The complainant also alleged that he and his associates received threats from the accused, and claimed — without offering corroborating detail in the FIR — that the accused have contacts with unnamed officials and political figures. He stated in his complaint that the ordeal has taken a toll on his health, citing pre-existing hypertension and diabetes.

The FIR has been registered under Sections 316(2) (criminal breach of trust), 318(4) (cheating), 336(3), 338, 340(2), 351(2) (criminal intimidation) and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, along with Section 24 of the Punjab Travel Professionals (Regulation) Act, 1983.

It is pertinent to note that the allegations in the FIR are based solely on the complainant’s statement and are yet to be established through investigation.
