Joban Billa Deported From Indonesia: Fugitive Bambiha gang member Joban Billa, wanted in four Punjab murders including a 12-year-old’s killing, deported from Jakarta after 6-month manhunt.

Fugitive gangster Jobanjit Singh, alias Joban Billa, an active member of the Bambiha gang, has been deported from Jakarta, Indonesia, and brought back to Punjab, capping a six-month international manhunt led by the state’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Saturday.
Billa, a resident of Arjan Manga village in Amritsar Rural, was detained in Indonesia on July 20 and deported to India soon after. He was taken into custody by Punjab Police from Mumbai airport and is being brought to the state for further investigation.
The operation, code-named Nomad Hunt, was carried out by the AGTF in coordination with the newly formed Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTEC) Punjab and central agencies.
“The operation marks the successful culmination of Operation Nomad Hunt — a six-month-long intelligence-led international manhunt involving sustained surveillance, strategic intelligence gathering and close coordination with national and international agencies,” DGP Yadav said.
Wanted in four murders
Joban Billa Deported from Indonesia: ADGP AGTF Promod Ban, who supervised the operation, said Billa is wanted in four murder cases registered in Punjab: the killing of Jarnail Singh at Sathiala village in Amritsar in May 2023; the murder of Deepu Ajnala in January 2024; the murder of 12-year-old Gursewak Singh in March 2025; and the murder of Vicky Chugh, also in March 2025. He also faces cases under the NDPS Act and Arms Act, besides attempt-to-murder charges.
Police records show Billa built a parallel reputation as an extortionist while abroad, running a Dubai-based racket that targeted shopkeepers and residents across Amritsar’s rural belt with demands ranging up to Rs 50 lakh, at times enforced through firing incidents, with his brother Gurwinder Singh — currently lodged in Amritsar Central Jail — allegedly acting as the local collection point.
Fled on a fake passport
Joban Billa Deported from Indonesia: According to police, Billa left India on January 9, 2025, using a passport prepared on the fake particulars of a Gorakhpur resident. The document had been issued from Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh in March 2024. He first hid in the United Arab Emirates, then moved to Georgia, before finally travelling to Indonesia.
DGP Yadav said Punjab Police had issued a Red Corner Notice against Billa and shared inputs on his fake passport and movements with central agencies at intervals, resulting in five separate INTERPOL references. “Sustained and persistent efforts led to detention of the accused in Indonesia,” he said.
OFTEC’s role as Joban Billa Deported from Indonesia
Joban Billa Deported from Indonesia: The operation was executed under Ban’s supervision and led on the ground by SP AGTF/OFTEC Bikramjit Singh Brar. OFTEC itself was set up on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, headed by IGP Ashish Choudhary, specifically to track down Punjab-linked criminals sheltering abroad and speed up their extradition.
Billa’s deportation comes amid the state’s ongoing Gangstran Te Vaar crackdown on organised crime networks.
