Seven minutes later, it touched down at the Rehardhar Branch Post Office, where postal staff handed the Tiranga to Honorary Subedar Major Kartar Singh, a retired Army Medical Corps veteran.
Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia inaugurated the delivery virtually from New Delhi, calling it India Post’s first-ever drone delivery of the national flag. But the ceremony was really a showcase for something already running quietly in the background since June — a commercial drone-mail operation that the government wants to scale to 150 routes across two states.

Not a one-off: a 150-route rollout already six weeks in

Skye Air Mobility signed its agreement with India Post in mid-June, and flights out of Mandi were airborne within 72 hours of the contract being signed, according to the company’s founder, Ankit Kumar. By the company’s own account, this is India’s largest postal drone network on paper: 150 identified routes, split 110 in Himachal Pradesh and 40 in Assam, targeting regions where mountains, monsoon flooding, or both routinely cut off conventional delivery.
Skye Air says its drones can carry payloads up to 10 kg across routes ranging from 5 km to over 80 km — a range that, if it holds operationally, would cover most branch-office-to-branch-office gaps in Himachal’s hill districts.
What it actually delivers, beyond flags
