Harbhajan Singh Drug Video: Punjab Link Confirmed Amid Fresh Political Storm

Harbhajan Singh drug video–a new one — is indeed from Jagraon, police have confirmed. But the footage is old, and the man seen in it was arrested on August 12.

The latest drug video shared by BJP MP and former cricketer Harbhajan Singh has cleared one test that his previous viral clip did not: it is from Punjab.

Ludhiana Police has confirmed the location as the Jagraon Bridge area and said the man seen in the footage had been arrested on August 12. But there is an important caveat — police have also said the video is old and does not reflect the current situation at the spot.

That distinction matters because the clip has quickly become the latest ammunition in the political battle over Punjab’s drug problem.

And for Harbhajan, the timing is particularly significant.

Only days ago, he was under fire after sharing another video as an example of Punjab’s drug crisis. That footage was subsequently traced to Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan.

This time, the location is Jagraon.

Harbhajan Singh drug video: Bhajji takes swipe at critics

The latest clip was originally posted on X by BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu, who claimed it showed young men openly injecting drugs under Ludhiana’s Jagraon Bridge and used it to attack the Bhagwant Mann government.

Harbhajan reposted the video and appeared keenly aware of the criticism that had followed his earlier Rajasthan post.

His message to his critics was pointed: if the earlier video was said to be from Rajasthan, would they now claim that Jagraon Bridge was also in Rajasthan?

That line gave the new video a second life online — turning what began as a post about drug use into another chapter of the political fight over Harbhajan’s social-media posts.

But this time, the basic geography is not in dispute.

Police: Yes, Jagraon; but the video is old

Harbhajan Singh drug video: Ludhiana Police inspected the Jagraon Bridge area after the video was circulated.

The police said the footage was old and that no active open drug use of the kind alleged in the post was found during the inspection. In other words, the clip cannot be presented as evidence of what was happening at the bridge at the time of the police visit.  

Police also confirmed a significant detail: the man seen in the video had been arrested by Ludhiana Police on August 12.

That gives the video a genuine Punjab connection, but it also puts a limit on what can reasonably be inferred from it.

The location is verified. The timing is not current.

And that is perhaps the most important distinction in this entire episode.

Why this is different from Harbhajan’s earlier video

Harbhajan Singh drug video: Harbhajan’s previous drug-related post had triggered a much sharper backlash.

On August 11, he shared a video showing two men appearing motionless and suggested it reflected the condition of Punjab’s youth. The clip was widely circulated online amid claims that the men were affected by a so-called “zombie drug”.

Punjab Police subsequently said the footage was not from Punjab but from Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan.  

The episode gave the AAP an opportunity to attack Harbhajan and the BJP over what it described as a misleading narrative about Punjab.

AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, questioned the use of the Rajasthan footage in the political debate over drugs.

The new Jagraon video changes one part of that argument.

This time, Punjab is actually Punjab.

The bigger Punjab drug debate

Harbhajan Singh drug video: The political argument is unlikely to end with the Jagraon Bridge video.

Drug abuse has remained one of the most politically charged issues in Punjab, with opposition parties repeatedly using videos, photographs and individual incidents to question the government’s record.

The AAP, meanwhile, has sought to highlight its crackdown on drug networks, arrests and rehabilitation efforts while accusing its opponents of selectively using viral material to paint Punjab in a negative light.

Talking about Harbhajan, the video may leave him with a stronger factual footing than he had after the Rajasthan controversy — while still leaving plenty of room for the political fight to continue.
