14-Year-Old Girl Strangled by Father, Grandfather Over 'Suspicion' She Met a Boy

In the Hisar girl murder case, a 14-year-old was strangled by her father and grandfather in Adampur over suspicion she met a boy, her body dumped in a canal for five days.

A 14-year-old girl living with her grandfather in Hisar district’s Adampur was strangled to death allegedly by her father and grandfather, who suspected she had gone out to meet a boy, police said. Her body lay undiscovered in the Kishangarh canal for five days until an informer’s tip broke the case open on August 16.

The accused, grandfather Dharampal and father Vinod, were arrested on Monday, August 17, and produced before a local court on Tuesday. The concerned Adampur Station House Officer confirmed both developments.

Hisar Girl Murder: According to police, Sub-Inspector Raghubir Singh was on the Surya Nagar–Daroli Road on August 16, investigating an unrelated matter, when an informer told him that Vinod, together with his father Dharampal, had killed his daughter on the night of August 11 and thrown her body — after stuffing it inside a sack — into the Kishangarh canal near the Dhani Mohabbatpur bridge.

Acting on the tip, police recovered the body from the canal and had it kept at Agroha Medical College Hospital. Police said the girl had been strangled. A First Information Report for murder was registered against both men, who were tracked down and arrested the following day.

A family already split apart

Hisar Girl Murder: The detail that separates this case from a routine “suspicion” killing is the family structure police have described. The girl was not living with her father at the time of her death; she was living with her grandfather, Dharampal. Her father, Vinod, works as a halwai (sweet-shop cook) in Rohtak, roughly 170 km away, and lives there with his second wife. Her mother had already left the household years earlier, having remarried another man and moved out.

In other words, the girl was effectively being raised by her grandfather while both her parents lived apart from her; her father in another city with a second family, her mother remarried elsewhere. Police say Vinod suspected his daughter had gone out with a boy on August 9.

Acting on that suspicion — reportedly relayed to or shared by the grandfather who had day-to-day charge of her — father and grandfather strangled her two days later and disposed of the body.

What distinguishes the Adampur case is less the method of disposal, which fits a grim and familiar pattern, than the picture of a girl already effectively orphaned by both parents’ absence — killed by the very grandfather who had taken on her care, acting alongside a father living apart from her, over a suspicion never put to her directly.
