Chandigarh, September 15

Punjab Lecturer Recruitment: The School Education Recruitment Directorate, Punjab, has issued roll numbers to candidates for the written test to fill 883 Lecturer cadre posts across 12 subjects, with papers scheduled over four days starting September 19.

In a public notice dated September 15 (No. E-1146456/RD-6/2026253517), the Directorate said candidates for the recruitment drive can download their roll number slips from the department’s website, erd.punjab.gov.in. The slip carries instructions on paper timing, exam centre, and reporting rules — and candidates have been warned that late entry after the specified reporting time will not be permitted.

Punjab Lecturer Recruitment: The exam schedule

The written test will be held over four days, with morning and evening sessions on some dates:

  • September 19 (Saturday): Hindi and Sociology — evening session only
  • September 20 (Sunday): Political Science (morning), History (evening)
  • September 26 (Saturday): English — evening session only
  • September 27 (Sunday): Punjabi (morning), Maths (evening)

According to an earlier notice dated August 31 laying out this schedule, morning sessions run from 9:30 am to 12:00 noon, and evening sessions from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm.

How the recruitment got here

The drive traces back to a set of advertisements issued on June 25, 2026 inviting applications for 829 fresh Lecturer posts across 12 subjects — English, Punjabi, Hindi, History, Political Science, Maths, Economics, Commerce, Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Geography — along with backlog and new vacancies in the cadre.

On August 20, acting on a fresh requisition from the Director, School Education (Secondary), Punjab, and citing vacancies projected up to December 31, 2026, the Directorate revised the post numbers upward. A notice dated August 21 set out subject-wise revised vacancy tables, taking the total from 829 to 883 — an increase of 54 posts.

The increases were uneven across subjects. Punjabi saw the largest jump, up from 71 to 86 posts (+15), followed by English, up from 111 to 121 (+10). Political Science rose from 118 to 123 (+5), Maths from 91 to 96 (+5), Biology from 25 to 29 (+4), Economics from 35 to 39 (+4), and Chemistry from 28 to 31 (+3). Smaller increases were recorded in Hindi (25 to 27), History (200 to 202), Commerce (71 to 73), Physics (46 to 47) and Geography (8 to 9).

The revision also changed the number of posts reserved for women within several categories, including General, SC and Backward Classes quotas, subject to subject.

A correction window for candidates already in the process

Because some candidates had already applied before the revision — in several cases to only one subject — the Directorate opened a correction portal from August 22, 9:00 am, running until August 27, to let affected candidates apply to a second subject where new posts had opened, or amend their category.

The notice specified that a candidate who had applied under one advertisement but not under a connected one for the same subject could still apply through the correction portal, or alter their category selection; those who did not use the window would have their earlier, subject-only application treated as final. It also said that if a candidate’s application at the Directorate is later shifted for procedural reasons during this process, the candidate concerned will be informed separately before the shift takes effect.

The notice added that any error a candidate spots in their own already-submitted application can also be corrected only through the same portal, and that once the correction window closes, no further opportunity would be given to fix errors — responsibility for any mistake remaining in an application after the portal closes rests with the candidate.

The notice also flagged that reserved-category vacancy claims will be scrutinised: if a candidate applies against a reserved post but is later found not to meet the reserved-category merit criteria, an open-category candidate with a lower rank could still be selected against that post, applied strictly on merit as per Punjab government rules.

Disclaimer: Candidates are advised to verify the exam date, session timing, reporting time and centre details directly from their roll number slip, downloadable from erd.punjab.gov.in, before appearing for the test. North Desk has reported the schedule as issued by the School Education Recruitment Directorate, Punjab, in its public notices; candidates should treat the Directorate’s official notices and their individual roll number slip as final in case of any discrepancy.
