LPU Rape Case Truth: THE GHOST IN HOSTEL GH-3 — North Desk EXCLUSIVE

LPU Rape Case Truth: On the night of September 26 this year, a single post on an anonymous internet forum sparked a wildfire. Within hours, National Highway 44 was blockaded, vehicles were torched, and over 28,000 students were swept into panic. The claim: a horrific sexual assault inside a girls’ hostel at Lovely Professional University and an institutional cover-up.

But what actually happened behind the locked gates and inside the digital ether?

Over the past week, the North Desk team examined hundreds of pages of sworn police reports, forensic audit sheets and FIRs. Over the next few days, we take you inside the untold paper trail of India’s most explosive campus crisis. Here goes PART 1:

Did the rape at LPU really happen? Inside the Punjab Police reports, the forensic audit of 942 GH-3 hostel residents, and the Reddit confession.

In the dead of night on September 26, 2026, National Highway 44 outside Lovely Professional University (LPU) transformed into a pitch-black battleground. Thousands of protesting students blocked vehicular traffic, torched senior police officers’ vehicles, and vandalized campus property. The catalyst was a viral, terrifying claim racing through hostel corridors, WhatsApp groups, and Reddit threads: a female student had been raped inside Girls Hostel 3 (GH-3), and the administration was allegedly orchestrating a cover-up.

The outrage was instant, visceral, and nationwide. But as the smoke cleared, and the Punjab and Haryana High Court stepped in, a high-level Special Investigation Team (SIT) was tasked with answering the singular, haunting question at the center of the storm:

LPU Rape Case: Did the rape actually happen?

An investigation of the Punjab Police report, FIR transcripts, and internal case records reveals the untold, step-by-step account of what investigators discovered when they audited the campus to trace the alleged crime.

The Spark: A Reddit Post and Campus Whispers

LPU Rape Case: The panic began in the digital ether. On the afternoon of September 26, an unverified message surfaced on Reddit alleging that an assault had taken place in GH-3 three or four days prior, that the hostel warden had been quietly transferred, and that the university was suppressing the truth.

By nightfall, word of mouth had turned the post into accepted fact among a student population housed in dense residential quarters. By the intervening night of September 26 and 27, a crowd swelled across the campus gates. Outside individuals and non-student elements mingled with the agitated crowd. The demands were raw and furious: justice for the victim, safety for female residents, and an immediate FIR.

To quell the unrest and establish legal jurisdiction to probe the allegations with full statutory power, the police took a rare procedural step: on September 27 at 10:17 AM, Police Station Satnampura formally registered an FIR No. xxx (North Desk is not naming it to protest the identities) under Section 64 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023—the charge of rape—against an unknown person, predicated on a joint complaint submitted by three student representatives.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (Jalandhar Range) immediately constituted a five-member Special Investigation Team headed by Superintendent of Police Vineet Ahlawat, IPS, to run down every lead.

The Audit: 942 Students, 291 Rooms, Zero Victims

LPU Rape Case: When the SIT arrived at GH-3, they faced a bizarre investigative paradox: an active FIR for rape, but no named victim, no formal complaint from an aggrieved person, no identified crime scene, and no suspect.

The investigators launched an exhaustive forensic and human audit to prove or disprove the allegations:

  • The Comprehensive Roll Call: GH-3 houses 942 female residents across 291 rooms. The SIT seized all occupancy records, daily attendance sheets, and outstation leave applications. Every single resident was accounted for; not a single student was missing, untraced, or unaccounted for during the period in question.
  • Scrutiny of the Rumored Rooms: Online whispers had identified specific room numbers as the alleged scene of the crime. Investigators tracked down the two female residents of Room 504. In formal statements, both students unequivocally denied that any assault or untoward incident had occurred.

LPU Rape Case: Another rumor alleged that a student had abruptly shifted rooms to escape scrutiny; investigators physically inspected Rooms 143 and 144, recorded her statement under Section 180 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and confirmed her room change was unrelated, with the student categorically denying the rumor.

  • CCTV and Entry Logs: Detectives audited round-the-clock CCTV footage covering all demarcation lines and entry/exit points of GH-3 from September 17 to September 28. In an exhaustive review, not a single unauthorized male or solitary male worker was seen entering student quarters. On September 22, maintenance workers assigned to Room 509 were verified to have entered and exited strictly under the supervision of a female attendant, matching the university’s electronic University Management System (UMS) logs.
  • Hostel Staff and Questionnaires: Wardens, security guards, mess workers, and cleaning staff were examined. The SIT distributed written, confidential questionnaires directly to female students across GH-3 to allow anyone to report an assault anonymously. Not a single report or piece of corroborating evidence came forward.

Tracing the Originator: The Confession

LPU Rape Case: With physical and forensic evidence in GH-3 coming up entirely blank, the SIT’s Cyber and Technical Cell shifted focus to the original digital spark: the Reddit thread.

Using Internet Protocol Detail Records (IPDR) and Call Detail Records (CDR), investigators traced the exact digital footprint of the user who published the post. The police confronted the individual and formally recorded their deposition.

The user’s confession dismantled the core of the rumor: they admitted under examination that they had no first-hand or direct knowledge of any sexual assault. The post had been written entirely on the basis of unverified hearsay and casual hostel gossip. Recognizing the panic it could trigger, the user had deleted the post shortly after publishing it—but by then, screenshots had already jumped platforms into encrypted messaging apps.

Was It Coordinated? The Chitkara University Connection

The LPU unrest did not occur in a vacuum. Just 24 to 48 hours prior, nearly identical rumors alleging an assault and institutional cover-up had surfaced on social media regarding Chitkara University in Patiala, sparking localized student tension.

Recognizing a potential pattern of deliberate digital sabotage aimed at destabilizing major educational hubs in Punjab, the police had been specifically tasked to investigate whether the two incidents were linked.

According to records, Kapurthala police officially reached out to SSP Patiala sharing IPDR and CDR data to cross-reference the originators. By October 6, Patiala police officially confirmed that no direct inter-linkage, organizational connection, or shared technical footprint had been established between the two events as of that stage. The prevailing evidence pointed toward a dangerous case of algorithmic contagion—where panicky students at one university replicated the narrative framework seen at another.

The Verdict: What Really Happened?

LPU Rape Case: Based on the police’s report, the physical evidence, the testimony of the residents, and the confession of the rumor’s originator, the finding of the SIT is categorical:

No rape occurred inside Girls Hostel 3. No victim exists, no crime scene was found, and the incident that paralyzed Punjab’s main transit artery was born entirely out of an unsubstantiated digital rumour.

Consequently, the Punjab Police have initiated proceedings to file a formal cancellation/closure report in FIR No. xxx before the competent jurisdictional court.

Yet, while the crime of rape was disproven, the consequences of the lie were devastatingly real. Over the course of 36 hours, what began as a protest morphed into violent rioting, stone-pelting, the ransacking of LPU’s Uni-Mall, and the burning of three official police vehicles.

LPU Rape Case: While the ghost in GH-3 has been laid to rest, over a hundred students and outside agitators now find themselves captured in an expansive digital surveillance dragnet—facing charges ranging from highway blockade to cyber-terrorism.
