A large number of Punjab government employees and pensioners held what organisers called a historic protest march in Mohali on Friday, stepping up pressure on the AAP government over long-pending demands including 18% dearness allowance and its arrears for 183 months.
They had earlier issued a poll warning to the Aam Aadmi Party.
The Punjab pensioners protest march, organised under the banner of Mulazam Sanjha Morcha, began at Punjab Mandi Board, Phase 11, and concluded at Phase 1, Mohali. It was led by employees of Punjab Civil Secretariat, Finance Commissioner Secretariat, and various directorates and corporation employees under Sukhchain Singh Khehra, Sushil Kumar Fauji, Kulwant Singh, and Alka Chopra.

Punjab Government Pensioners Association, Mohali district, also joined the march under its president Dr NK Kalsi, with Finance Commissioner Secretariat Punjab chief Gurbaksh Singh leading that contingent.
Addressing the marchers, Gurbaksh Singh, State Press Secretary, Punjab Raj Pensioners Maha Sabha, warned that if the government continued to delay constitutionally mandated demands and the 18% DA with 183 months’ arrears, AAP candidates would face strong opposition in the May 26 urban local body elections and the 2027 assembly polls.
