Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh has clearly drawn a line between his art and politics. During a recent Instagram Live session with fans, the singer-actor refused to comment on the ongoing Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar, saying, “Bro, keep me away from these protests… I am an artist, not a politician.”
The remark has not gone down well with the protest group. CJP spokesperson Saurav Das admitted he is “thoda sa upset” (a little upset) with Diljit.
Diljit Dosanjh & Cockroach Janata Party: What Happened?
While interacting with fans on Instagram Live, one user asked Diljit about the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar. Diljit replied in Punjabi-mixed English, making it clear he wants no part in it. He further said he has “no idea” about the specifics of the protest and quoted a line from Guru Granth Sahib: “Nanak dukhiya sab sansar, so sukhiya jis naam aadhaara” (everyone in the world faces sorrow; only those who remember God find peace).
He added: “Jo protest kar rahe hain, unhe mubarakan. Jinke liye protest ho raha hai, unhe vi mubarakan.” (Congratulations to those protesting, and also to those against whom the protest is happening.)

CJP Spokesperson’s Reaction
In a video shared by an Instagram page, Saurav Das initially said he had “no message” for Diljit. However, when pressed, he expressed disappointment: “That’s very sad… He should say something to encourage the youth. He pumps them up with his songs, so why not with his words too — about this movement and the issues faced by the youth.”
He openly admitted feeling a bit upset with the “Lemonade” hitmaker.
Background of the Protest
The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), a satirical digital movement founded by Abhijeet Dipke, has been holding protests at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak controversy and alleged irregularities in examinations.
Diljit’s Stance on Politics
This is not the first time Diljit has chosen to stay away from active political involvement. He had earlier supported the farmers’ protests in 2020-21 but has repeatedly clarified that he is an entertainer first. In May this year, he also ruled out entering politics despite appeals from some quarters.
In April-May during Diljit’s Aura World Tour, Diljit Dosanjh briefly halted his sold-out concert in Calgary, Canada, after spotting a section of the audience waving pro-Khalistan flags — banners representing groups proscribed under India’s Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. Composing himself on stage, he turned to the protesters and said: “Jinne jhande dikhane, dikhao” — show as many flags as you want.
The crowd cheered. Security escorted the protesters out. The Diljit Dosanjh show went on.
But when it became a big controversy, Diljit came up with a clarification. nd his clarification cuts sharply against the narrative that has dominated coverage of the incident.
In a detailed statement posted on Instagram, written in Punjabi and Hinglish, Diljit made a precise and important distinction: he did not ask anyone to put away their banners or flags. He asked security to remove those who were disrupting his fans inside the venue. Anyone who reported otherwise, he said, was spreading a fake narrative.
Diljit is currently riding high on the success of his recent film Main Vaapas Aaunga with Naseeruddin Shah, Sharvari, and Vedang Raina.
